Lady GaGa is Madonna, Miley Cyrus is Olivia Newton John. Kate Middleton is Lady Di.
DubStep is NewWave and techno rolled together.
The BMW E30 is a desirable car. The DeLorean is voted cool.
Dayglo, Ray Bans, big hair are all back baby.
Seriously, go to the 1980's wiki pages for music, fashion and pop culture and ask yourself if anything there would be at all out of place if you saw it on the streets?
Tell me what else you see that has totally comeback full circle!

Yep.
And I bought myself a 80's Mazda Cosmo Rotary Turbo few weeks ago.
Now we need another RX-7.

The Cosmo is definitley a sweet ride, and furthering my thesis, will draw admirable attention out on the roads today.

I don't have time to argue your point, but I wish that I did

You disagree with the thesis-as-fact? or simply don't want the 80's to come back?

I've been 80s-obsessed pretty much all year, so yeah this is very much true. I even bought an 80s Celica a few months ago!
Another thing that's definitely popular is Synthwave and Outrun Electro music. I fucking love Outrun, and Synthwave is pretty awesome as well. Then there's also the fact that somebody made this video:
Every trick in the 80s TV commercial book at once.

I'm still waiting for hair metal to come back.

I started brushing my long hair back so instead of a stoner I look like Kurt Russell.....

I grew up in the 80's. These are not the 80's.
We are merely in the age where people who grew up in the 80's are now waxing nostalgic and have the power to manipulate markets to relive their youth selectively.
(like I said, old person rant)

Miley is no ONJ. Not on your life!

ya, especially when I put my pop up headlights. Afterall it's 1980, so everybody still have their pop-up headlights.

Booooooo the 80's!

No offense taken. But I didn't say it WAS the 80's, merely that 80's stuff is all coming back in vogue (pun intended). I agree with your criticism that much of the resurgence is unoriginal and a shallow ripoff of the genuine article, but this doesn't disprove my assertion that a lot of what we see today is very heavily 80's influenced, original or not.

GM having a V8 that can act as a 4 cylinder. Displacement on demand 6.2 is the modern version of the old V 8-6-4 368 cadillac motor.

4-cylinder turbo fords and turbocharged buicks are big news!

If this was the 80's, I'd have feathered hair.
I do not currently have feathered hair again (THANK GOD).
This is not the 80's you're looking for. Move along.

The wholesome girl-next-door actress/singer turned sex symbol, not because she is a sex symbol, but purely for marketing re-branding?

Wow. That was incredible apropos. Good man.

I'd rather wait for extreme metal to be reborn.

Part of the reason why 80s cars are popular is due to recent car prices as well as too much 90s kidism.

The Buick Regal doesn't necessarily suck.

Well, I actually love 80s Japanese and American sports cars for aesthetic reasons mainly so the price thing is just a nice coincidence.

Don't get me wrong, me too, that's why I mentioned "90s kiddism". 80s cars were still big in the 90s (hell the first Corvette I ever saw was a C4).

I don't really want hair metal back.
The rock music though, I'd love to see that back in fashion. Or back with full quality, to be precise.

See, I was going to reference feathered hair, but, thankfully, you beat me to it. Yet another 80's trend I had to live through, and do not wish to repeat. That, and acid washed jeans.

I keep seeing these sunglasses that they used to give out for free at Blockbuster video. I thought they were cool when I was a little kid. I guess I was...right?
